“you’re willing to sacrifice our families.” I don’t know exactly who you’re talking about. Of course there are extremists who say extreme things, but most of us leftists in the US avoid interaction with such counterproductive stuff. I’ve read hundreds of articles from leftist sources since Oct. 7 and I haven’t seen a single one that didn’t condemn aggression against Israeli civilians or fail to sympathize with Israeli victims.
So much suffering in the Levant. I’m sympathetic to Israelis in the sense that they live with a constant bunker mentality. That and the endless contention since 1920 raise the issue that perhaps the Zionist project was not a good idea from its inception.
The policies of Israel have forced things toward a One State Solution. (What was offered at Camp David in 2000 was not viable ... and then the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002 was not accepted by Israel.) So, now, let’s all work for a bi-national secular state. Such a goal will take generations to realize, but it’s the only just solution. Along the way let’s continue to condemn all gratuitous violence.
