. . . at this point in his career he has nothing to lose. He just won his last term in the Senate (he’ll be 89 when this term is up in 2031). He won’t run again and there are no higher committee leadership positions to vie for. He should have been chagrined at the idea that in 2024 the Democrats made him share a stage with the likes of Liz Cheney.

His hero had been Eugene Debs. Debs was resolute about independence from the establishment parties. When Bernie saw a chance for some influence he got irresolute.

From Eugene Debs to Liz Cheney!

He knew better when he was 25. Then he got drawn into The System. For decades he was pathetic sheepdogging progressives into the Democratic Party. He should be ashamed and he should now salvage something of the legacy of Debs. He should advocate or a progressive third party (ideally the Greens).
