The point of an article like that is that the human race is, yes, gaining ecological consciousness.
Slowly, in one sense: A lot more actually would have to be done to mitigate the general ecological crisis. Enough won’t be done in time and so we’ll face centuries of crisis. It won’t be pretty.
But, in another sense, given that it’s only two generations since the inauguration of Earth Day (representative of the greening turn): The change in consciousness is rapid relative to other such shifts throughout history.
