Get Rid Of Trump Day tomorrow.

I’ve agreed to allow my teenage charges a sip of champagne.

Nate Silver says there’s a 60% chance we’ll know the outcome by 3am. I’m betting the trends will be so clear by midnight that the corks can be popped and we can be dreaming nice dreams by 3.

I normally don’t care all so much about who wins the horse-race between the establishment party candidates. I do somewhat prefer to see the Dem win because after four years of a Democratic administration the unsatisfactoriness of Democratic Party politics is fully evident and undeniable. During a Republican administration, progressives always say that the most important thing in the world is to remove the greater evil and they give our Green candidates a hard time about daring to run.

So until the Greens are able to win at all levels, I’ll vote Green but root for the Dem in the horse-race. If Biden wins as expected (in spite of being such a dreary weak candidate), at least I can look forward to having progressives join us in advocating for a better alternative in 2024.

This year there are two particular things to watch:

(1) We have a strong candidate for US Senate in Maine under circumstances of Ranked Choice Voting. Lisa Savage was included in the televised debates. She could do well. And when supporters of Lisa rank Sara Gideon #2, their votes will wind up helping to elect the Democrat (flipping a seat from red to blue, possibly contributing to transitioning the whole Senate to a Dem majority).

(2) Trump could drag down the whole ticket and leave the Republican Party a shambles going into 2021. If there then is a civil war between the Trump loyalists and the “Never Trump”ers, it’s conceivable that a major party would split in two … and that could be the beginning of the end of the duopoly.
