why people are getting less tolerant

1 min readMar 17, 2025

Workaday life within mass institutional-technological class-riven society sucks but people put up with it and even were willing to sacrifice somewhat and even were willing to be magnanimous to some extent (re: immigration, re: DEI) when we were operating under the mystique of progress.

The mystique of progress prevailed whenever empires were ascendant and then prevailed in a more general kind of way for some centuries during the modern period as “a rising tide seemed to be lifting all boats” … as each succeeding generation seemed to be “doing better.” But the mystique is fading and people now are less and less willing to tolerate the conditions or the sacrifices … less and less inclined to feel much sense of noblesse oblige. Rather, in their frustration and disappointment they’re cheering on the iconoclasts.

This is a big deal, this end of the mystique of progress.
