Why is marriage so hard to sustain these days?

Aug 17, 2021

There probably are a whole bunch of reasons, but here I’ll name three:

* Stress. The standards (demands), scopes, complexities, and over-choice of our society are stressful. A situation of two stressed partners makes for tension.

* Atomization. When people have family and community around them buttressing their couple-ness, they are more likely to stay together.

* Distraction. Hundreds-of-prospects-at-a-swipe is allegorical of the vast sea (“Plenty of Fish”) that breeds FOMO.

All of this is anti-conducive.
