Democrats who court “progressives” alienate the moderates and mild conservatives they need to win national elections. Harris’s baggage as a Bernie Sanders acolyte touting monstrous amounts of government overreach surely helped turn off centrist voters she desperately needed and failed to capture.

Conservatives and Libertarians rightfully critique monstrous amounts of government overreach. Liberals and progressives rightfully critique mega-corporate dominance of our economy and politics.

The idea of a “third way” is based on an appreciation that liberals and conservatives have valid critiques of each other.

I surely don’t like mega-corporate dominance but I don’t like Big Government either. I don’t like sending tax dollars to Washington, DC. I don’t trust what those remote self-interested pols do with my money. They give a lot of it to militarism. They overspend and then have to give a lot of it to paying interest on the debt. They fund pork. They are socially and ecologically irresponsible. Do you really know what they do with your tax dollars? Not in detail you don’t. Spending bill documents are thousands of pages in length. Tax code documents are thousands of pages in length.

Big Government is remote and dumb and irresponsible.

The ideology of the third way is communitarianism.
