What’s “woke”?
“Woke” is what, in the sixties, we used to call “revisionism.” It’s an examination of our country, our system, our institutions with a more realistic perspective than the old hagiography.
A revisionist classic is Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States. Another is Jim Bouton’s Ball Four.
More realistic.
Ball Four just shined a light on the personal foibles of athletes (which had rarely been done before).
A People’s History shined a light on the deep issues of our society. Doing that is very disturbing. Our society has some really major issues.
