What we (should have) learned from Trumpism

. . . is that there is a huge mass of Extremely Alienated “out there.”

Which only makes sense.

The attention, rewards, privileges of modern cosmopolitan culture accrue to a ten percent elite. A suburban middle class of maybe thirty percent does OK. The rest exist in “fly-over” boondocks or lumpen dysfunctionality. They are either fully beaten down or they are seething.

The seething ones express their alienation via a cranky kind of retrogressive populism. This is going on worldwide. It only makes sense. In our country it manifested recently as Trumpism.

We can’t fix it. It won’t go away. There will be seething until the point where they give up on any reliance upon The System and go local.

That’s the solution.
