This time, let ’em secede

A secession of the “red states” would be a perfectly valid idea. This nation-state is too large, anyway.

It would be a great historical idea. Learn from history and don’t make the same mistake as was made in 1860. Let them secede.

I’m sure slavery would have faded away in the South if the confederacy had been allowed to become a country. It was fading away all over the world during the nineteenth century. An organic and self-motivated process of abolishing slavery would have been better. It would have avoided a hundred years of Jim Crow and the bitter divisions of this continual “red state/blue state” stuff.

This good idea (secession/devolution/decentralization) won’t happen, of course. But it should. The alternative is that this unwieldy polity stays locked-in to a dysfunctional super-union and retrograde electoral system.
