The issue of European Green parties entering coalitions with conservative parties . . .

It’s happened in Austria and Ireland. It’s happened in some of the German sub-states, even where the conservative parties are quite reactionary.

A leftist might point to this situation and say: “See, without a grounding in socialism, without a commitment to transforming property relations as a theoretical bedrock, the Greens can wander all over the map ideologically and wind up buttressing the policies of some pretty unsavory characters.”

On the other hand it might be a case of voters clamoring for a mixture of new alternatives as they reject the old liberal-establishment parties.

The only thing clear is that there’s ferment, re-thinking, ideological turbulence. Some kind of new era unfolding.
