This is kind of so ironic
For seventy years they went to great lengths to bring Russia back into the capitalist fold. When the Bolsheviks declared communist intentions in 1918 the geopolitical financial elites assembled an intervention army to foment a civil war. The Bolsheviks won and Russia (as the principal republic of the Soviet Union) became off-limits to direct capitalist finance until about 1990.
There was great celebration among those elites when the Russian stock market was revived and when US franchises like McDonald’s opened for business there. A whole sector of additional exploitation became available!
Now, thirty years later, the Russian markets are off-limits again. McDonald’s and other franchises are exiting. It’s quite a reversal.
