this echoes my theme for 2024
“a popularity erosion of America’s two major political parties could very well engender a new place for third-parties”

California’s Newsom Urges Democrats to Be Mindful of Third Party Contenders
In the political world, Democrats and Republicans alike each have their own issues to face.
On the left-wing, incumbent Joe Biden has competition from fellow Democrats Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson. On the right, Republican Nikki Haley is the one and only challenger left against former President Trump. 11 other GOP candidates who were once in the race since dropped out.
As political division, polarization, and hyperpartisanship continue to escalate, some Americans are expressing exasperation with both of the country’s major political parties. This paves the way for third-party contenders like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, and Cornel West to emerge in the 2024 presidential race. According to Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, members of his party ought to be concerned about this.
Newsom on the rise of third-party candidates in the presidential election
While speaking with ABC “This Week,” Newsom opined that the aforementioned hopefuls lack the support to win, but can still operate as “spoilers” in the election. The left-wing governor then said Democrats should feel a sense of “worry,” but ultimately set their sights on “[controlling] the controllables.”
Despite Newsom’s views about No Labels, he cautioned against concerted efforts to shut the group down or keep it off the ballot. The California governor also stated after reviewing what No Labels claims to stand for, he believes much of its agenda is already active in the Biden-Harris White House.
A growing market for third parties?
If more people begin to feel like neither the Republican Party nor the Democratic Party is a good fit for them, they will naturally turn elsewhere. This clearly opens the door for No Labels and various third-party candidates to step in, reach out to disaffected voters, and offer alternative solutions.
Newsom’s commentary follows the emergence of No Labels, a political unit focused on advancing bipartisanship and centrism. Democrats, in particular, have raised issue with No Labels’ prospective involvement in the 2024 election scene. The organization is still potentially considering several ticket options in this year’s race. At least one of them is rumored to be a split ticket with one Republican and one Democrat.
At the end of the day, a popularity erosion of America’s two major political parties could very well engender a new place for third-parties.
