There’s no utopia

Human life is hard in every culture.

Adolescence is hard.

It’s just hard to be human.

Due to consciousness. Consciousness of vulnerability, precarity, infirmity. Most of all: mortality. Not to mention the pain of possible social ostracism or isolation; the potentiality at any time of dire consequences from any wrong turn.

It was hard to be human in aboriginal societies. It will be hard even after we manage to green the modern societies.

The problem with our own current society / culture / civilization is the extent to which we’ve stressed the entire biosphere in our misguided efforts to deal with our human predicament.

Folly and shame.
