The growth imperative is so deeply entrenched and so longstanding that there was never really any chance the nation-states and the corporations would voluntarily scale back much (enough).

At the environmental summits they’ll never fully agree; and in regard to what they do agree on, they’ll cheat.

Pollution of all kinds is so endemic to the industrial system that a crisis is inevitable.
