The world is very slowly coming around to an objectivity about the situation

It’s been an amazing process, especially for a Jewish kid to observe.

As a Hebrew School student during the 1950s I, typically, collected money to plant trees in Israel. I saw the show Milk and Honey and was imbued with an identity and an affection for Israel.

As I came of age I found it shocking that a people who had suffered oppression through the ages could turn around and inflict oppression on another people.

But I noticed that the world chose to overlook that reality for many years on the basis of sympathy after the Holocaust. Now it’s clear that the world is getting past that skewed perspective and becoming increasingly intolerant of bad behavior, recognizing a factor (among many) that keeps destabilizing the Middle East.

Nonetheless, I doubt a Palestinian state will ever be achieved. A long-term issue is whether a Jewish state with seven or eight million Jews will be able to survive amongst Greater Arabia with its 500 million Arabic-speaking people. If not, then history may judge that Zionism was not a good idea.
