*** there have been two human lifeways … the “New Ways” of the last five millennia are aberrant and have led to our current hypermodern crisis and malaise:
. ecological irresponsibility to the point of ecocide
. social insanity characterized by institutional/technological hypertrophy, egregious extents of inequality, hyper-urbanism, and hyper-militarism
. in regard to population: a human species bloom
. in regard to personal human life-satisfaction: consider that here in America the felt and experienced life-quality overall is no better than that of 1491 while in those 500+ years we’ve trashed the place
*** the ruinous industrial-capitalist system is just the current manifestation of a complex that developed in the wake of a long-ago misguided turn among some groups toward expansionism, developmentalism, urbanism, statism, wealth accumulation, power-elitism, empire building, patriarchy, and an anti-ecological totalitarian form of agriculture
*** to address the current crisis/impasse of leftism
. based on the above re-analysis of human history and the human condition, the left needs to transition “from Red to Green”
. the left should recognize the fallacies of Marxism (re: its adherence to the modernist worldview of “progressive development” and its delusions about the idea of a “class-for-itself working class” as the agency of social change)
*** in regard to our social-change work:
. at the “macro” level we should strive to alter policy via ecosocialist activism and electoralism
. at the “micro” level we should prioritize the prefigurative and modeling work of building the new society within the shell of the old
