. . . has to do with a sense of deficiency re: the ideologies of modernism.

Democracy turned out be a sham within the context of mass society dominated by wealth disparities.

Marxism turned out to be deluded in regard to its most fundamental precepts: the trajectory of history, the agency of social change, the vision of liberation.

Developmentalism turned out to be unsatisfactory (while plagued by pernicious externalities).

Feminism turned out to be overly individualistic.

Internationalism turned out to be unappealing.

Integrationism turned out to . . . lack resonance. As they all did.
