the eight things to do re: “the greening of society”

Personally:
* have perspective
* relax
* be patient
* be constructive

Socially:
* scale down
* slow down
* decentralize
* gradually depopulate

The ultimate goal is to more or less get back to the way the Indians lived here in 1491. It was sustainable.

My guess is that it will take something like a thousand years from where we are now.

Sustainable lifeways will be dependent upon a much lower level of population. Maybe we could sustain a billion.

So we need depopulation. I hope it won’t result from nuclear war at some point. It would best be done gradually, over many generations, in the following way:

Go back to living in real communities, village-like communities. Within that context, share the obligations and satisfactions of child-rearing. With a “sharing of the children” . . . couples can be satisfied having fewer children.
