The Debate Gave Me Hope

Sometimes history can change quite unexpectedly, in an eyeblink.

Trump was so bad in the debate that the following scenario can be imagined:

So bad that he finally achieves revilement by enough of the electorate to not only make it a landslide against him on November 3 but also to drag down the GOP ticket all across the country . . . becoming the last straw for the “Never Trump” Republicans . . . resulting in an internal bloodbath in 2021, a civil war inside the Republican Party.

I’ve been dying for one of the establishment parties to split. It would be the end of the duopoly. It could have gone the other way: If Bernie had gotten the nomination and then the 2020 election was a debacle for the Dems, that party could have split between its ultra-progressive wing and its moderate wing. But the Democrats resolved their impending crisis by ganging up against Bernie and whipping their ducks into a row behind (yawn) Biden. They avoided a split. AOC will vote Biden and Bernie will vote Biden and Cornel West will vote Biden.

And I’ll be hoping that Trump loses in such a way that he can brag: “Nothing like it ever seen before” … “Huge” … “The Greatest Loss in History, by Far.” And I’ll be hoping his party winds up a shambles by the end of the year … salvaging 2020, after all!

Imagine: His party splits right down the middle during 2021.

And quite unexpectedly, in an eyeblink, the dreary duopoly goes defunct.
