Many people can see that a single-payer system is overall superior. Canada pays considerably less for healthcare relative to the US and achieves similarly good health outcomes.

Many people can see that a robust multi-party democracy is superior to our only-two-significant-choices dreary duopolistic political system.

Many people can see that, in this day and age, it makes sense to have tuition-free public higher education (as was the case for free public education through high school a hundred years ago).

Many people can see that our military budget is bloated and there is no need for us to maintain 800 bases in foreign countries.

Etc.

But this country is stuck in many ruts.
