"So you still think humanity has plenty of time to 'transform' from destroying to protecting the planet?"

I don't think the situation is so black and white: Destroy or protect.

I wish we could change ASAP.

Do you see it happening?

We'll change gradually. The consequences of the last five thousand years, and especially the last three hundred years, will take their toll. There will be enormous ecological disruption. The planet won't be destroyed. Nature will survive. I think the human race will survive, but possibly not.

Human population, production, consumption, depletion, and pollution will decline. A lot. The Long Emergency transition (devolution) will be painful. I hope humans will learn from the aberrant mess they got themselves into. None of us can know at this point if the human race will learn or survive.

But "the planet" (nature) will not be destroyed. And I'm sure the sorry ship of state can't be turned around in a generation or a century.
