Liberalism reigned during the Thirties, Forties, and beyond for a while. Even Republican president Eisenhower, Republican governor of NY Rockefeller, Republican mayor of NYC Lindsay weren’t very conservative. The New Deal and the Great Society set the tone. But, of course, life was still unsatisfactory under all the liberalism, so, of course, there eventually was a reaction … and that ushered in the Reagan / Thatcher / Giuliani ultra-conservative era.

Liberals and leftists hated Giuliani and were glad to see his comeuppance. By the end of his term his policies were reviled and his wife threw him out of the house. The house was the Mayor’s place, Gracie Mansion. She stayed in it while Rudy had to go around the city finding friends to host him. The disgraced mayor of New York was crashing nightly on couches!

But then Fate gave him a reprieve. September 11, 2001 was Election Day in NYC. Giuliani’s replacement was going to be crowned (via winning the Democratic Party primary). The election was postponed when the Twin Towers fell. Lucky for Giuliani, the friend he crashed with on the night of Sept. 10 lived downtown. Rudy rushed to the scene and his image went viral as being America’s Mayor providing succor. His popularity shot up. So much so that he almost thought he could remain in office beyond his term on the basis of a “post-9/11-emergency.” Liberals and leftists were chagrined to see his miserable legacy erased from memory.

It took him some time to re-establish a miserable legacy. His MAGA activity has accomplished it.
