Our society does not want to recognize some of the most basic things

. . . like the extent of anti-ecological overshoot (it’s awesome, profound, and traumatic).

And:

There are many reasons given for the relative dearth of family formation among millennials and then even more so among Gen-Z’ers . . . elevated housing prices, job precarity, etc.

Another reason constitutes a big fat public secret: Modern life is too hard.

They’re intimidated. They’re discouraged.

You’ll sometimes hear older people say: “Well, I wouldn’t want to be growing up in these times.” They’ll reference political polarization or gun violence or technological disruption. But I think underneath they have a sense: The demands of our lifeways [in hyper-modernity] are near-overwhelming … re: the scales, the standards, the complexities … as well as the expenses …
