Of the Left, to transition the Left

I’m sympathetic to the slogan “Neither Left nor Right but Out in Front” on the basis that the Left has tended to be ideological in the worst sense of the word (stuck in a fog of misconceptions).

Nonetheless, as the following article indicates, when the political spectrum is perceived as linear (as it usually is, though there are better ways to render it) we clearly fall on the left side, valuing egalitarianism, anti-militarism, feminism, justice, extended democracy, ecology, diversity.

Rather than abandoning the Left (although I’m sympathetic to that feeling, too) I think it’s our job to transition the old horse to greener pastures.
