more on American stasis
Deep inside our culture is a sense (a public secret) that “progress and development” has gone too far, and so there is a certain lack of will to go much further. There’s a creeping stasis.
After putting men on the moon in 1969 we were supposed to get to Mars by 1980.
Not.
After activists (temporarily) stopped the American war machine and nuclear development during early 1970s we were supposed to get to Marx (socialism) by 1980.
Not.
As we adultified and took over things we were going to “throw away the cars and the bars and the wars.”
