As the realization dawns regarding the extent of the overshoot, what we’ve done over a long period of time, and what it will take to achieve sustainability, people are likely to despair and feel somewhat disoriented. It will seem so sad. No one intended destruction. How could it have come to this?

“Humanity needs to start shrinking our agricultural footprint and expanding our natural footprint, after thousands of years of doing the reverse.”

And there will be article after article about What To Do Now. Four Things To Do. Seven Things To Do. Fourteen Things to Do. And we all will sense, deep inside, that it’s beyond us, individually and collectively. And so a dreary and prolonged crisis awaits, unavoidably.
