Let’s simplify

It’s been a roller-coaster ride, a tale full of sound and fury.

Tech has been a marvel.

At first adored, glorified, envied. The progenitor of one of the greatest bubbles in all of financial history (which dramatically peaked right at the turn of the millennium!). The startups, the VC’s, the fortunes. The competitions (David Microsoft as the slayer of Goliath IBM!). Heroism: Apple down to near-bankruptcy (circa 1998), Jobs comes back in, he envisions gadgets, Apple soars, and then the whole world goes ‘i’ (remember, it was first the iPod, which replaced the Walkman, then the iPad, the iPhone, the iWatch, the iBody, the iMind).

But, then, lately, disparaged, even reviled. Frustration. Distraction.

In any case, it’s been a major phenomenon of our historical period. So much, so fast, so high, so low. So many facets. Hard to wrap one’s mind around the totality.

Let’s simplify:

The world of tech is insane.

The scope and the scale and the buzz and the fog and the extending of our civilizational trajectory toward divorce from the natural world is fully misguided and bad for us.

The phenomenon will have to play itself out and then devolve back as All does settle back to sanity. There will be no internet at the turn of the next millennium.
