It’s so hard to figure out what we’re about and why we run

It baffles me why the press continually asks our candidates questions like: Why is a Green Party needed? Why do you run? Isn’t third party politics impossible? (or: irrelevant? or: disruptive?)

What could be so hard to understand?

After Silent Spring (1962) an environmental movement emerged.

It manifested in all kinds of ways, like: the first Earth Day in 1970, clamor for an Environmental Protection Agency, etc.

It was logical that the movement would have an electoral arm, so Green parties were formed in just about all democracies.

Duh.

Mr. Reporter: Look out the window and you’ll notice ecological imbalances and incipient crises. What part of “the world needs an environmental movement and Green parties” do you find it hard to comprehend?
