It’s quite an outcome

“leaders made a tactical error by splitting off the infrastructure bill”

The progressives were DETERMINED to pair the infrastructure bill with the social programs bill, afraid the latter would languish and shrivel otherwise. Nancy Pelosi decided the strategy was not viable.

Build Back Better languished and shriveled. No one is more chagrined than Bernie Sanders. He was DETERMINED to have the period 2021–2023 be his legacy. One more chance for Dems to be in control of the White House and the Congress. He was upset that they did so little the last time (the first two years of the Obama administration, 2009–2011). He was DETERMINED that they proceed on the basis of learning all the lessons of that previous failure.

Not. And after 2023 the Congress will likely again be divided. And Bernie, himself, will be languishing and shriveling.

Like Nader, Perot, and Jesse Jackson, Bernie Sanders had a chance to do something REALLY historic . . . start to break open the dreary only-two-choices system that has this country in such a rut.

But, as it was for Nader, Perot and Jesse Jackson, the undertaking was too daunting. They all withered. It will take a special kind of leader (or movement) to get that task accomplished.
