It was an experiment

God wondered what would happen. It had heretofore seemed kind of brutal: To give consciousness to a mortal being.

Each organism has sentience during a limited life-span. Each organism experiences the stimulation and engagement of vitality. Before homo sapiens each had been sheltered from the dread and unacceptability of finiteness.

God wondered what would happen. They (no gender, God) allowed it. In that respect, “sapiens” means conscious.

The experiment showed that it’s not a good idea. God had suspected that it would drive a mortal creature crazy.

Oh, well.
