Hyper-geopolitics as one of our pathologies
Relative to the rest of the community of life, the human race sure does have a lot of issues.
Hyper-geopolitics is sure one of them.
What the boys will do with the power of those toys . . .

The United States has the most power.
There was a discussion about this in the very beginning. Thomas Jefferson (at first) said: “Don’t go there.” Alexander Hamilton said: “Let’s become a Great Power.” An issue of human beings is indicated by the fact that Hamilton won out.
Couldn’t possibly choose to live lightly and locally, no way.
Great Power. Great Bullying. The Big Power drove Japan crazy (via encroachment) and Japan proceeded to act out in a self-destructive way. The Big Power provoked the Soviet Union to spend more on the military than their economy could afford and they imploded. The Big Power drove Russia crazy (via encroachment) and provoked the current self-destructive acting out.
It’s hyper-geopolitics and it just sucks. Obviously there needs to be concern that Hamiltonianism is irresistible and will ultimately doom the whole race. It sure does (sometimes? often?) seem that way.

Ukraine has become an unwitting victim and proxy in the resurgent US Cold War against Russia and China, in which the United States has surrounded both countries with military forces and offensive weapons, withdrawn from a whole series of arms control treaties, and refused to negotiate resolutions to rational security concerns raised by Russia.
