guess what
I always got a kick out of this: Daniel Quinn said the most obvious thing in the world but we’re not allowed to repeat it.
He said: Guess what: If you have a real big cage with a whole lot of animals in it and you start to increase the amount of food you send into the cage daily . . . guess what: You’ll get a growing population of the animals.
There are too many humans in the world. On the basis of hearing that some don’t have enough to eat we keep working feverishly to increase the food supply. And, guess what: The human population, already too high, keeps increasing. So increasing the food supply is actually not a good idea.
You’re not allowed to say it, though. It’s considered misanthropic.
(Corollary: A plethora of food and, guess what: A crisis of obesity.)
