Haugen drew on internal files and her own experiences to paint a picture of a company where a prioritization of growth metrics fueled decision-making.

In a sense this all is silly. The above applies to just about every corporation in the world.

What’s really going on is that people are aghast at the Scale, the Reach, the Power, the Influence. It is ghastly. Influencing billions. These globalized scales result in influences and powers and riches (Haugen said: “astronomical”) that are unprecedented in all of human history.

They are peaking in our time.
