“If DSA politically follows AOC while she’s committed to following Nancy Pelosi, what role is DSA actually playing? Force the Vote exposed an inconvenient truth for some on the Left: the Squad have been moving to the political Right, playing the inter-party game that has effectively tamed radicals for decades inside the Democratic party.

“Some on the Left refuse to assess the Squad this way, because these politicians are being used to justify a theory of change tied to the Democratic Party.

“If the Squad is not a viable avenue for change, then political independence must be sought.”

I thought DSA might split during 2020 because its leadership would demand support for Biden while the rank-and-file could see a chance to vote for a socialist (Howie Hawkins).

But the “be solid anti-Trump” sentiment won out.

But now . . .

The situation I always root for — Democrats in full power — has become a reality.

Are you a betting person? Bet on the Democrats disappointing.

When they do, half of DSA will get disgusted enough to go Demexit and half will stick with trying to transform the party from within.

Unfortunately, the former may sign on with the new Peoples Party. It’s fresh and innocent. It’s social democratic.

What the Green Party stands for is, on the one hand, viewed in a simplistic way (environmentalism) and/or, on the other hand, too “new paradigm” (decentralist and communitarian) for most of the left to relate to.

Social democracy is easily placed along the old left-right spectrum. Green politics is not. So it will catch on slowly.
