She had a miscarriage, he had an affair. They had a baby, then a fight. They got over it, moved to the country, settled down.
The portrayal is realistic re: the difficulties, conflicts, hopes, guilts, dissatisfactions, tolerances, illusions, stresses, compromises, efforts, disappointments, and endurances.
Adult life is complicated. Relationships are hard. Feelings are fraught. But we usually do muddle through. And we can love.
