Complex industrial modernity simply needs a huge amount of energy

Jul 23, 2022

Deep Greens have been saying that the production and consumption needs of modern industrial society are such (egregiously humongous) that there’s no way renewables will be able to supplant fossil fuels until a significant process of degrowth gains momentum. The latter phenomenon figures to be a slow process stretching over decades, at least. Meanwhile dirty, polluting, and toxic energy production will continue to be employed and CO2 levels in the atmosphere will continue to climb.
