Chomsky in 2023 … a final plea as his vitality was fading

How critical his framing is . . . I would think would make the case for Green politics. But in U.S. high-level elections he advocates voting for the Democrats.

I think that’s because he’s overly-apocalyptic. His inclination is to advise that the ship of state must be turned radically as soon as possible. Obviously the Green Party in this country is not in a position to do that. So he says vote for the Democrats to do that and push them to do that.

But

I think it can’t be done. The problems have been a long time coming and will be a very long time gone. What the Democrats do immediately will be: (a) not enough; and (b) suppressive of the superior (Green) ideology.

Noam, the turning is going to take a long time and that argues for the idea of building up the superior ideology. It’s an unavoidably long process but has better results in the long run. We’re probably (hopefully) not facing apocalypse soon and if we are, well, the policies of the Dems won’t avoid it.

We do need to turn the ship of state. The process of building the Green movement and implementing the Green policies will play out incrementally. Unless there is the shattering of nuclear war.
