chipping away

Taking a birds-eye view over the years you can see that there has been an incremental chipping away at the dominance of the duopoly in terms of both sentiments and legalities. There seems to be an acceleration of the process this year due to the fact that the Rep and Dem candidates are particularly unappealing.

The duopoly is a terrible thing because it results in so many people casting a negative vote, i.e., voting against the “lesser evil” rather than for a supported ideology. I feel certain the duopoly will be shattered relatively soon (within decades):
