It references a lot of the important things: capitalism and corporations and externalities and inequalities and social ecology and potential collapse. It was spot on until the writer needed to “get visionary” at the very end so that the readers could come away inspired.

“the world community should cooperate on redistribution, on devising methods to share the benefits of development more equitably”

This won’t happen because there is no such “world community” to make it happen.

That paragraph should be replaced by:

“We should foster and participate in a movement based in our localities and our nation-states, a movement that has a dual aspect: (1) change policies at the macro level; (2) build the new within the shell of the old at the micro level.”

With that substitution it would be a good article.
