A thin reed, but I believe in it

When they start experiencing all the pessimism and negativity, when they start hearing all the chatter about decline and collapse, the grandchildren will ask: “Why is your disposition positive?”

And I’ll say:

“Because these will be looked back upon as special times.

“In our time there is unfolding a necessary turning point. To be part of it is a positive thing.

“Things have been going in a problematic, misguided direction for a long time. The recognition of that is the first step toward changing direction. That’s what’s underway. And if we can start going in a better direction it will be momentous.

“If it’s true, then it’s the most essential truth of our time. Even if we’ll be facing a period of ‘Long Emergency,’ we can feel positive about the effectuation of a turning point. It’s actually rather exciting.”
