A subterranean public secret
My critique of “progress and development” has to do with our problematic notion of “development.” What we’re doing under the aegis of that concept is paving over the earth and encroaching upon habitat. Bad stuff.
But there can be progress (improvement) in regard to techniques and in regard to consciousness. Progress re: attitudes toward sex and sex education are a case in point:

But there remains a major avoidance, still. The male sex drive. We tend to avoid explicitly, realistically acknowledging how powerful and unruly it typically is . . . preoccupying for men, an issue to be dealt with for women. It’s a major factor of adult life, in fact a significant issue for both sexes, but we rarely convey that in sex ed. instruction.
