A different era
We didn’t know it, but it was the end of an era.
During the Seventies some of us Sixties radicals studied the Thirties. The Toledo Auto-Lite strike. The Minneapolis Teamsters strike. The West Coast Waterfront strike. Socialist revolution via labor uprising.
Some of us went to the plant gates to sell our militant newspaper. Some went inside the gate to get jobs “on the line” and organize from within. None of that amounted to much. Less than in the Thirties. And then the zeitgeist turned. The Eighties was all about Reagan and Thatcher.
The paradigm was never revived.
